Parents of the underage hoodlums should be fined along with community service and there names mentioned in this blotter. What a disgrace !!

Beach patrol needs to be a little more vigilant in the coolers filled with alcohol on that beach

Margate City Police Department - Press Release

The Margate City Police Department made thirteen arrest over the busy Memorial Day Weekend. The charges ranged from disorderly conduct, simple assault, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, drug offenses and DWI related offenses. Of the arrested, six were adults and seven of them were juveniles. Ten of them were reportedly from Pennsylvania and three of them from New Jersey.

Officers working the day shift on Saturday also dealt with a large fight involving mainly juveniles on the beach in front of Lucy the Elephant. At approximately 2:00 PM a Margate Officer assigned to the beach radioed in that a large fight was beginning to break out. A crowd of juveniles gathered on the beach on Decatur Avenue and several fights began to erupt. Every Margate Officer working responded to disperse the crowd and break up the fights. Officers were largely outnumbered and had to call for assistance from Ventnor City Police and the Longport Police Departments, the two neighboring towns. As a result of the incident, several arrests were made and two Margate Officers sustained minor injuries.

Officers working the night shift experienced a lot of the same problems except this time the large gatherings had shifted from the beach to the surface streets mainly around the WaWa on Washington Avenue. Officers dealt with more drug offenses, disorderly conduct and curfew violations. All of those arrested were released on their own recognizance pending a future court date.
